I am facilitating the Bible study, Gideon by Priscilla Shirer. In our very first lesson We learned that God told the Israelites to completely destroy their enemies, to annihilate the idolatrous nations and take back the land (Deuteronomy 7: 1-2). But the Israelites didn’t fully follow through. Reading through Judges 1, we see the “failure” of the tribes. In Judges 1: 19 it says, “The Lord was with Judah and enabled them to take possession of the hill country, but they could not drive out the people who were living in the valley because those people had iron chariots” (CSB). I wonder if they looked at their opponents and their chariots and thought, “There’s no way! Look at what THEY have, and look at what LITTLE we have!”
Have you ever doubted what God was telling you because you were focused on YOUR resources and not GOD’S resources? Have you thought, “There’s no way! I’m not qualified or equipped for this!” Have you forgotten the first part of Judges 1:19, “The Lord was with…”. You can go ahead and fill in YOUR name there, because friend, He is always with you! “Be strong and courageous; don’t be terrified or afraid of them. For the Lord your God is the one who will go with you; he will not leave you or abandon you” (Deuteronomy 31:6 CSB).
I often feel unqualified in this life. Sometimes I don’t feel “qualified” to raise these beautiful girls God has given me, especially when they ask me questions about faith and I don’t have all the answers. I don’t feel “qualified” to be the wife my husband needs or deserves sometimes. Most all of the time, I feel unqualified to be a Christian. For all the years I have been following Christ, I still don’t have it all together in that area. My prayer life is lacking sometimes, my faith waivers, and honestly, I don’t feel “qualified” to facilitate a Bible Study. I look at other moms, other wives, other leaders and think, “There’s no way! Look at what THEY have, and look at what I have. I don’t have the skill set, I don’t have the personality, I don’t have what it takes to fulfill the job”. But I am looking at ME and my resources (or lack of), and NOT focusing on God’s resources, which are limitless. God has placed us all exactly where He wants us. We can always rely on God, on His strength, on His power, on His qualifications to give us exactly what we need when we need it. I’m learning that He isn’t afraid of my weaknesses, or that I may not “feel” qualified. He wants me to recognize that He can stand in the gap for those weaknesses. THAT is when we see God do things in our life. As Paul said, “Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me” (2 Corinthians 12: 9 b CSB). Friend, if you feel God telling you to do something, then YOU ARE QUALIFIED to fulfill it, because HE will have His hand on you. It doesn’t mean it will be easy, it dosen’t mean it will be perfect. But ultimately, God’s purpose will be fulfilled if we follow Him and are faithful. Thank you for reading!! Leave a comment and share your thoughts!!
Also, join me in the coming weeks as I blog through Joshua. I will be posting about one chapter a day and sharing a verse that spoke to me. I’d love for you to come along!
