Nothing But the Blood

This past weekend my family and I took a “before-school-starts-back” trip to New York.  The last couple of years we have tried doing something the weekend before school starts to get some uninterrupted family time before the early morning routines and the busy afternoons get going again.  The first day, we saw Aladdin on Broadway and walked around Times Square after it was over.  The play was amazing!!  From the incredible musical numbers, to the unbelievable costumes and special effects, we absolutely loved it!  I will be honest, Times Square overwhelmed me a bit!  This was my first time to The Big Apple, and I was amazed at the amount of people (we must have been on an extra busy night because my husband has been 4 times and even he said he had never seen that many people)!  As we tried to make our way through the masses, I kept noticing how dirty the streets were.  The curbs were litter-lined and there was grime everywhere.

The next day, we took the subway to Manhattan to worship at Hillsong Church.  What an amazing experience!! As I sat in the balcony listening to the praise team, I became overwhelmed with the sweet, calming, peaceful, unmistakeable presence of my Savior! It was such a tender moment.  I just felt Him in that space and it brought me to tears.  I immediately realized, that Jesus is in the midst of our dirtiest places.  That He IS light in the darkest places.  As we continued to worship, the praise team began to slow the tempo of the music, and one of the lead vocalists began to sing, “What can wash away my sins?”. I then began to realize that I was as dirty as the streets of Times Square.  My soul was just as litter-lined as the curbs, and I was covered in dirt and grime, unfit to be in His sight.  Yet, He, the Light came in to my darkness and washed me white as snow.  Thank you, Jesus for being the Ultimate sacrifice.  For shedding Your blood so that it could wash away my sins.

Jesus meets us right where are, in the darkness, in the dirtiness of life.  He meets us just as we are.  How thankful I am that I don’t have to change, or be better for Him to love me, but because He does love me, I can grow and become better.  I can become more like Him.

“Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world.  Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life” (John 8: 11 CSB).

“For you rescued me from death, even my feet from stumbling, to walk before God in the light of life” (Psalms 56: 13 CSB).

The chorus of the song is this: “What can wash away my sin?  Nothing but the blood of Jesus.  What can make me whole again?  Nothing but the blood of Jesus.  Oh precious is the flow, that makes me white as snow.  No other fount I know, nothing but the blood of Jesus.”

I pray that I can be a light for someone.  That people will see something different in me and that something is Jesus.  I want His light to shine through me.  Thank you for taking the time to read and I pray you were blessed by this.  Leave me a comment and let me know you stopped by.  Have a blessed week!

  1. Amen!
What a beautiful reminder that He loves us so much that He came by our grimy lane, plucked us up, cleaned us (and continually does so) and never ceases to love on us – even when we go back to grimy lane to visit. Hallelujah! I’m glad you were able to visit the Big Apple and have worship at Hillsong Church and be soothed with the songs of truth. 🤗

  2. Crystal- you are in fact HIS light! After seeing you about a month ago out and about I told my husband you were one of the sweetest and down to earth people I have ever met. You are the type of person that makes any situation brighter and anyone around you leaves feeling so much more positive. Thanks for being my friend!

As I sit and read your blog, while my baby boy babbles in the background, I am filled with tears knowing HE is the only thing that saves and can cleanse us of all our sins. We all make mistakes and commit sins on a daily basis but it is refreshing knowing we can repent and we will be saved ! Keep the blogs coming- in my chaotic world right now they help humble me and bring me back to why GOD even allowed me to bear HIS child! Lots of love girl! 💗

  4. Crystal, your words are such a blessing today. The one who roams seeking whom he may devour wants everybody to feel they’re really doing ok being a “good person” and not really committing those “big sins”. Anytime I start to feel that way it only can mean that I’ve put distance between God and me because the closer we draw to Him, the more His light exposes our sinful nature and shows us we need a Savior every single day. Thank you, girl! Love you and your obedience!!!!

  5. “Jesus is in the midst of our dirtiest places” Thank you for that lovely reminder. He truly is in the pit with us leading us out if we choose to follow. Your vulnerability, humility and transparency are so refreshing. You are on a good path, following a good guide, model, husband, Jesus, our Beloved.
